Social Media, Corporate Housing, Social Media… Boom!

Have you heard enough about Social Media? I have… but I’m still attempting to wrap my entire head around it, and how it will benefit The Corporate Housing Network. I’ve most familiar likely due to the fact that — like you — I’m online all day for work; I’ve also heard (and seen) others scratch their heads because they simply just don’t get it. I consistently hear echoes concerning the importance of “being on top of” — and a part of — this boom; however, I have to admit, until a few weeks ago, I am not sure I fully understood its impact. Clearly, I’m starting to.
I recall when Facebook first began: it was a platform by which teens could safely socialize. Everyone said, “Oh, it’s not like MySpace, it’s much safer… you can control who sees your profile” (the response I received from my college nannies after lifting a brow to their explanation that they met someone on FB). I refused to give in to joining Facebook for about two years, and then I caved 1.5 years ago. However, my husband still vehemently refuses to join. I give him a few months.
I will admit, I joined Facebook for personal gain. Little did I know that this immense captured market would not only benefit me personally (c’mon, admit it… we all are dying to see if our high school crushes got fat!), but there was an opportunity for this audience to bring professional success. And, yes… just by maintaining connections and nurturing new ones.
Moving over to probably the most talked about network: Twitter. I consistently hear about Twitter… I remember when there was “a race to get the 1 millionth follower…” between Ashton Kutcher and CNN… and then Oprah came into the Twitter picture, too.
Do you tweet? Do you twat? Do you Twollow? Do you Tweetlater? I still don’t get the lingo, but I better get with it, as I now have a Twitter account (!). In fact, connect with me here! More on my personal social media journey, and how I intend to have it translate to business, later this week. Stay tuned!
