Traffic has risen across the board for many airlines, and many are claiming business travel as the top reason.
International travel is on the upswing around the world, with American Airlines travel increasing 3.1%, primarily in the international arena. Unfortunately, domestic travel was up just .6%, while international travel is up a staggering 7.1%. In response to the increase, American boosted its capacity just 3.2%, proving how close to capacity the major carriers are operating these days. Despite the increase in mileage passenger count has decreased, dropping from 7,723,404 to 7,712,854 passengers.
Delta announced traffic was up 1.2%, with 18.94 billion passenger miles. Domestic travel however was down .9%, with international traffic up 4.2%. Passenger level was slightly higher.
The numbers are improving, the economy is slowly on the uptick, and signs of a slow, but very real recovery for corporate travel, corporate housing and business travel are on the horizon.
